Edin Dzeko Extends Contract with Schalke
Veteran Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko has officially signed a one-year contract extension with Schalke, following his significant contribution in aiding the club’s return to the Bundesliga last season, as confirmed by the German team on Monday.
Now 40 years old, Dzeko, who previously captained Bosnia and Herzegovina during the recent World Cup, made his move to Schalke on a free transfer in January. During his time with the club, he impressively netted six goals in just 11 appearances in the Bundesliga 2, playing a crucial role in the team’s promotion back to the top tier of German football after a three-year absence.
Reflecting on the promotion, Dzeko expressed, “Winning promotion to the Bundesliga ranks among the highlights of my career. It was unbelievable.” He added, “Football has made me happy and driven me throughout my life. I am still hungry, and I want to help our team in the Bundesliga too.”
Dzeko is poised to potentially make his first Bundesliga appearance since departing Wolfsburg for Manchester City in 2011, as Schalke prepares to kick off their league campaign against Augsburg on August 30th. Throughout his illustrious career, he has donned the jerseys of notable clubs including Roma, Inter Milan, and Fenerbahce.
