Richard Carapaz Undergoes Surgery Ahead of Giro d’Italia

Former Olympic champion Richard Carapaz has recently undergone surgery to address a perineal condition, just a month prior to the much-anticipated Giro d’Italia. The Ecuadorean cyclist, who notably clinched the Giro title back in 2019, is optimistic about his recovery and is focused on competing for a fourth podium finish in this prestigious race.

In a heartfelt message shared on Instagram, the 32-year-old cyclist stated, “It wasn’t part of the plan, but it was handled in the best possible way.” His previous performances include a commendable second place finish in 2022 and a third place the following year. Carapaz, having also secured gold in the road race at the Tokyo Olympics, faced setbacks last year when he was forced to miss both the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España due to an illness.

Now, with a renewed focus, Carapaz is dedicating himself to his recovery, intent on regaining peak physical condition in time for the upcoming Giro. “From today, I’m fully focused on my recovery and on getting back to peak condition ahead of the Giro,” he emphasized, reiterating his commitment to the sport and his fans.
