‘FOREVER 20’: DIOGO JOTA AND HIS BROTHER TO BE HONOURED BY LIVERPOOL WITH ANFIELD MEMORIAL
Liverpool Football Club has unveiled plans to construct a permanent memorial at their iconic Anfield stadium in memory of the late Diogo Jota, former forward of the club, and his brother Andre Silva, who tragically lost their lives in a car accident last year in northwestern Spain. This heartfelt tribute, named “Forever 20,” highlights the jersey number that Jota wore, which has since been retired by the club across all its levels including the women’s team and the academy.
The memorial will feature a heart-shaped sculpture positioned on a Granby Rock-faced stone plinth. This plinth will be laser-engraved with a dedication honoring both brothers. Notably, it will also showcase Silva’s number 30 shirt from his time at Penafiel in the Portuguese second division. Liverpool’s official statement expressed that the structure will incorporate many physical tributes that fans had previously left at Anfield, ensuring a personal touch to the memorial.
Diogo Jota made significant contributions to Liverpool’s successes during his tenure, helping the team clinch the Premier League title the previous season. He was also pivotal in their victories totaling the FA Cup in 2022, and the League Cup in both 2022 and 2024. Over his time with Liverpool, Jota netted 65 goals across 182 appearances, solidifying his status as a valued player.
In a poignant evening before the commencement of the upcoming 2026 Premier League season, the club held a minute of silence in remembrance of Jota, paying respect before the kickoff in the match against Bournemouth. This gesture symbolized the collective grief and respect shared by the Liverpool community for both Jota and Silva, as the team embarks on another season, forever carrying their memories in their hearts.
