NETHERLANDS’ BART VERBRUGGEN RETURNS TO TRAINING AFTER HIP INJURY

The Dutch national football team has received a significant boost ahead of their World Cup campaign as goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen has successfully rejoined group training on Friday. This development follows a hip injury Verbruggen sustained during the team’s last friendly against Uzbekistan, where he landed awkwardly, prompting an early substitution.

Verbruggen, who plays for Brighton, was diagnosed with a bruised hip. Following the incident, he was replaced by Mark Flekken of Bayer Leverkusen. In the aftermath of the injury, the young goalkeeper, aged 23, was kept apart from his teammates while he followed an individualized recovery program aimed at gradually reintegrating him into full training.

On Friday, Verbruggen made his return to group practice; however, details remain unclear regarding whether he participated for the entire session as it was conducted behind closed doors. His involvement is crucial as the Netherlands prepares for their opening World Cup match against Japan this coming Sunday.

This highly anticipated Group F match is set to take place at Dallas Stadium in Arlington, Texas, with a kick-off time scheduled for 22:00 CET. As the tournament approaches, the excitement builds, knowing that the 2026 World Cup will be hosted jointly by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, featuring a record 48 teams competing across 16 state-of-the-art stadiums from June 11 to July 19.

With Verbruggen’s return to training, the Netherlands aims to bolster their squad as they eye a strong start to their World Cup journey.
