Cape Verde Coach Bubista Takes Club Job in Morocco with RS Berkane

Pedro Leitao Brito, known as Bubista, has been appointed as the head coach of Morocco’s Renaissance Berkane, as announced by the club on Tuesday. Bubista previously led Cape Verde to the knockout stage in their inaugural World Cup appearance last month, achieving a significant milestone for the small island nation. Although the terms of his contract have not been disclosed, it follows a series of negotiations that considered the possibility of him continuing to coach Cape Verde while balancing both roles.

As per recent media reports, the 56-year-old is expected to step down from his position with Cape Verde shortly. RS Berkane has a notable history, having clinched the Moroccan league title in 2025 and finishing as runners-up in the subsequent season. The club also progressed to the semi-finals of the African Champions League last year and is set to compete in Africa’s premier club tournament once again in the current campaign.

Bubista’s impressive coaching credentials were highlighted when he was awarded African Coach of the Year in 2025 for guiding Cape Verde to World Cup qualification. Noteworthy performances during the tournament included surprising draws against powerhouse teams such as Spain and Uruguay, before losing to Argentina in a hard-fought match that extended into extra time in the Round of 32.
