Aston Villa Triumphs in CAS Appeal Regarding Brian Madjo’s Registration
Aston Villa has received a significant boost as they can now officially register forward Brian Madjo for competitive matches. This breakthrough comes after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld their appeal against FIFA’s initial block which prevented the 17-year-old from playing. Madjo, who joined Villa from Metz earlier this year for a transfer fee of £10 million (approximately $13.44 million), faced restrictions due to FIFA’s regulations that limit international transfers for players under the age of 18.
Born in England but raised in Luxembourg, Madjo’s situation was complicated by his appearances for the Luxembourg national team three times in the previous year, alongside representing England’s Under-17s. FIFA contended that his international status as a Luxembourg player justified their decision to deny the transfer registration. However, Aston Villa contested this, arguing that his English nationality and birthplace should exempt him from these restrictions.
Following the court’s favorable ruling, Aston Villa confirmed via social media platform X that Madjo will be registered and eligible to compete in official matches for the upcoming season. His pre-season performances have been notable, with four goals scored so far, including two in the team’s opening friendly against Walsall.
Looking ahead, Aston Villa is set to face European champions Paris St Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on August 12th, where Madjo’s inclusion could prove vital for the team’s performance in this prestigious encounter.
