COVENTRY RE-SIGNS GOALKEEPER CARL RUSHWORTH FROM BRIGHTON ON LONG-TERM DEAL
Coventry City has secured the signing of goalkeeper Carl Rushworth on a long-term contract from Brighton & Hove Albion, following a successful loan stint last season. The Premier League club announced the news on Tuesday.
During his loan period at Coventry, Rushworth showcased remarkable performance, making 46 appearances in the Championship, where he kept an impressive 17 clean sheets. His contributions played a pivotal role in helping the team achieve promotion, marking the end of a 25-year absence from the Premier League.
While the specifics of the financial transaction were not disclosed, reports in the British media suggest that Coventry paid approximately £22.5 million ($30.26 million) for the 25-year-old goalkeeper.
Rushworth initially joined Brighton from Halifax Town in 2019 but did not feature in any senior matches for the club, spending his time with Brighton on loan at six different teams throughout his seven-year tenure.
Expressing his optimism about returning, Rushworth stated, “There’s excitement. I can finally relax knowing it’s done and that I’m back with the boys and at a club I loved being at. I’m excited to have this new challenge in the Premier League and to be able to call this place home is a big thing I’ve been looking forward to.”
As Coventry gears up for the new Premier League campaign, they will kick off their season against defending champions Arsenal on August 21st.
