She claimed a decisive quarter-final victory against fellow American McCartney Kessler, winning the match in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-1.

Jelena Ostapenko, crowned as the Eastbourne champion in 2021, also sailed through her quarter-final, defeating Zeynep Sonmez with a commanding score of 6-3, 6-0. Despite battling through heat stroke the previous night, Ostapenko managed to deliver a powerful performance, illustrating her tenacity and skill on the grass courts.

UPCOMING CHALLENGES FOR THE SEMIFINALISTS

Keys is set to face Croatia’s Petra Marcinko in the semi-finals, following Marcinko’s hard-fought match against Caty McNally, which ended in a close 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 victory in a duration of two hours and 18 minutes. Expressing her joy post-match, Keys remarked, “I’m very happy with today’s performance,” marking her fourth time reaching the semi-finals at Eastbourne.

OSTAPENKO READY FOR MORE

Ostapenko, a previous semi-finalist at Wimbledon, will confront Tatjana Maria in her next match. Maria advanced after overcoming Tereza Valentova with scores of 6-3, 7-5. Reflecting on her unexpected participation on the day, Ostapenko shared, “I didn’t think I was going to play today,” highlighting the challenges she faced due to her health.

Meanwhile, in the ATP event transpiring alongside, Jack Draper continued his remarkable journey back from injury, achieving a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Gabriel Diallo, marking his first semi-final appearance since last year’s competition at Queen’s. Under the mentorship of renowned former champion Andy Murray, Draper is looking to cement his return to form.

LIGHT AND LUCK ON DRAAPER’S SIDE

Draper will now vie against France’s Ugo Humbert, who secured his position in the semi-finals by defeating compatriot Quentin Halys with a score of 6-3, 6-4. Notably, the field will witness another British contender as Toby Samuel, a lucky loser, marked a career milestone with a solid 6-3, 6-4 victory over eighth seed Juan Manuel Cerundolo.

Samuel is slated to compete against Belgium’s Zizou Bergs, who advanced by overcoming British qualifier Jan Choinski 6-3, 6-3.
