Jess Thorup Returns to Coach KRC Genk
Jess Thorup has been appointed as the new head coach of KRC Genk, succeeding Nicky Hayen. The Danish manager is set to make his return to the club where he had a brief tenure during the 2020/21 season. Thorup has signed a three-year contract, which will see him at the helm until 2029.
A New Era for KRC Genk
KRC Genk is aiming for a resurgence at the top of the league under Thorup’s guidance. Dimitri de Condé, Head of Football, praised Thorup’s wealth of experience and clear football philosophy. “He knows our club, he knows Belgian football, and he knows what it takes to win trophies,” de Condé stated. The club has also made significant investments in their first team structure this summer, and it is believed that Thorup is the right coach to build upon this foundation and turn it into tangible results.
Previous Opportunities and Commitment to Genk
Despite receiving multiple offers from clubs in the English Championship, Thorup chose to return to KRC Genk. He expressed his enthusiasm for the club, highlighting its top-tier status: “You can see it in every aspect: the quality of the squad, the facilities, the support staff, the ambitions for the future. I’m really looking forward to writing the next chapter of this story together with everyone at the club,” he remarked.
An Impressive Track Record
With a solid background in management, Thorup has led teams like FC Augsburg in Bundesliga and has achieved notable successes in Denmark with FC Midtjylland and FC Copenhagen, securing league titles. Additionally, last season, he lifted the Egyptian Super Cup while at Al Ahly FC. His extensive experience positions him as a significant asset for KRC Genk as they look to reclaim their status as a top contender in Belgian football.
