Stefanos Tsitsipas celebrated his return to winning ways by securing the Swiss Open title on Sunday, marking the end of a lengthy 16-month wait for an ATP Tour victory. The Greek player triumphed over Belgium’s Raphael Collignon in a gripping final, finishing with scores of 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-3 at the picturesque Gstaad tournament.
This victory signifies Tsitsipas’s first title since defeating Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final of the Dubai Tennis Championships back in March 2025. With this win, Tsitsipas now boasts a total of 13 ATP singles titles throughout his career.
After the match, Tsitsipas expressed his gratitude, saying, “I would like to start by mentioning how amazing the final was today. It’s been a long time, so it does mean a lot to me.” At 27 years old, Tsitsipas is a former world number three, but he currently holds the 85th spot in the global rankings.
In the two-hour and 17-minute contest, Tsitsipas displayed a remarkable serving performance, achieving four aces without committing a single double fault. He won an impressive 21 of 29 points during his second serve and effectively saved two of the four break points that came his way.
Tsitsipas began the match strong, taking the first set before Collignon, the first-time ATP Tour finalist, responded valiantly to level the match in a tension-filled second-set tiebreak. Nevertheless, Tsitsipas regained control during the deciding set, securing the crucial break needed to seal his victory and the championship.
This pivotal win serves as a significant confidence booster for Tsitsipas, who has previously reached two Grand Slam finals. With the US Open scheduled to begin on August 30, the Greek tennis star’s recent success could be the momentum he needs to make a significant impact in the tournament.
