Deebo Samuel Returns to San Francisco 49ers on One-Year Deal
Star wide receiver Deebo Samuel is making a notable return to the San Francisco 49ers, having signed a one-year contract worth $7 million. This move comes after a year away from the franchise that initially selected him in the NFL Draft.
Samuel’s signing has been reported by multiple media outlets, although the team has not yet officially confirmed the arrangement. Originally chosen as a second-round pick during the 2019 NFL Draft by the 49ers, he displayed exceptional versatility and skill under the guidance of coach Kyle Shanahan throughout his six seasons with the team. Following his tenure in San Francisco, he was traded to the Washington Commanders after the 2025 season.
During his sole season with Washington, Samuel managed to achieve 72 receptions, accumulating a total of 727 yards and scoring five touchdowns. As a free agent ahead of his return to the 49ers, he was brought back due to concerns regarding the team’s wide receiver depth, primarily because of injuries to several players.
Currently, the 49ers’ roster is facing challenges, with Christian Kirk sidelined with a calf injury and Ricky Pearsall recovering from knee issues. Additionally, tight end George Kittle is doubtful for the upcoming opening game of the season.
In a strategic move to bolster their offense, the 49ers also signed veteran wide receiver Mike Evans, who joins the team after an impressive 12-year career at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In his time with the Buccaneers, Evans compiled 866 receptions for a remarkable total of 13,052 yards and scored 108 touchdowns.
