Investment Group Acquires Majority Stake in Estrela da Amadora

A notable development in the football world has emerged as a consortium made up of former Bayern Munich stars, including German World Cup winners Thomas Muller and Mats Hummels, has successfully acquired a majority stake in Portuguese club Estrela da Amadora. The official statement from the club confirms that the investment group has purchased 90% of the share capital from the existing company.

According to the club’s announcement, the takeover was led by ADvantage and LEAD, along with backing from the KI Group, highlighting a strategic collaboration that intertwines experience in sports, investment, and technology. The group also features well-known figures in international football, including Thomas Muller, Mats Hummels, Yann Sommer, and Lucas Hernandez – all of whom have proven records in their respective careers.

The Portuguese newspaper A Bola disclosed that the investment group forked out €40 million (approximately $46.65 million) for the majority stake in Estrela da Amadora. Founded in 2020 following the disbandment of a previous club with the same name due to financial difficulties, Estrela’s recent performance in the Primeira Liga has seen them finishing 15th in the previous season.

Despite his recent retirement, Mats Hummels is joined by the still-active Thomas Muller, who currently plays for the Vancouver Whitecaps in Major League Soccer. Lucas Hernandez continues to showcase his talent at Paris Saint-Germain, while Swiss international Yann Sommer competes for Club Brugge in Belgium.

Muller and Hummels were instrumental in Germany’s triumph at the 2014 World Cup, whilst defender Hernandez was a key figure in France’s victory in the 2018 World Cup held in Russia.

This acquisition marks a significant move in the facade of Estrela da Amadora, indicating a potential rejuvenation and upliftment for the club as the new investors aim to merge their expertise to navigate the competitive landscape of football.
