ANTONELLI SECURES FOURTH CONSECUTIVE VICTORY AFTER RUSSELL’S ENGINE TROUBLES IN CANADIAN GRAND PRIX
Kimi Antonelli, the dominant force in the Formula 1 championship, achieved his fourth straight victory on Sunday at the Canadian Grand Prix. This remarkable feat came after a crucial power unit failure sidelined his Mercedes teammate and main competitor, George Russell, before the race reached its halfway mark.
Having started from pole position, Russell engaged in an electrifying duel with Antonelli, exchanging the lead as the race progressed. Unfortunately, his ambitions were cut short on lap 30 of the scheduled 68, when his car came to a standstill on the side of the track at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
The 19-year-old Italian driver, Antonelli, not only clinched victory but also expanded his lead in the championship standings over Russell, pushing it from an existing 18 points to an impressive 43 points after five races. All of these events were won by Mercedes, including three Saturday sprints, showcasing the team’s formidable performance this season.
Following Antonelli’s lead was Lewis Hamilton of Ferrari, finishing in second place, with a gap of 10.7 seconds behind him. Max Verstappen from Red Bull secured a strong third position, marking his first podium finish of the season, further emphasizing the competitive nature of the event.
This victory underscores Antonelli’s prowess in the sport, solidifying his position as a frontrunner as the season progresses, while also highlighting the challenges faced by his teammate Russell.
