2026 All-NBA Teams Announced: Wemby Misses Unanimous Selection by One Vote
On Sunday, the NBA unveiled the All-NBA first team for the 2026 season, highlighting the remarkable talents in basketball. Among the standout players, Victor Wembanyama, the 22-year-old French sensation of the San Antonio Spurs, achieved a significant milestone by being named to the prestigious first team. However, Wembanyama fell short of earning a unanimous selection, missing out by a single vote against other elite players such as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic.
Wembanyama’s performance this season has been pivotal in leading the Spurs to the Western Conference finals, where they will face off against the Oklahoma City Thunder, guided by Gilgeous-Alexander. In a stunning display of skill, Wembanyama garnered 99 out of 100 possible first-team votes from a global panel of sports media, along with one second-team vote. His remarkable contributions to the game have only been further emphasized by his recent recognition as the unanimous NBA Defensive Player of the Year.
Joining Wembanyama on the first team were fellow stars Luka Doncic, who collected 91 first-place votes and also marked his sixth selection to the All-NBA first team, and Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons, who brought in 60 first-team votes. The elite lineup reflects a blend of consistent excellence and emerging talent in the NBA.
The MVP award this season went to Canada’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who claimed the title for the second consecutive year. His performance this season was so impressive that he, along with Jokic, received the maximum of 100 votes, which contributed to a total score of 500 points. Wembanyama followed closely, finishing third overall with a total of 498 points.
The All-NBA second team featured a mix of established stars and skilled players, including Jaylen Brown, Kawhi Leonard, Donovan Mitchell, Kevin Durant, and Jalen Brunson. Meanwhile, the third team included Tyrese Maxey, Jamal Murray, Jalen Johnson, Jalen Duren, and Chet Holmgren, showcasing the depth of talent within the league.
