Arsenal’s Eberechi Eze Ruled Out of England Friendlies Due to Calf Injury
Arsenal’s midfielder Eberechi Eze will not participate in the upcoming international friendlies for England against Uruguay and Japan following a calf injury. Manager Mikel Arteta confirmed this on Sunday after Eze was unable to play in Arsenal’s recent League Cup final, where they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City.
The young talent had been named in Thomas Tuchel’s 35-man squad announced on Friday, set to play at Wembley Stadium against Uruguay on March 27 and Japan four days later, as part of England’s preparation for the World Cup. However, Arteta was candid when asked about Eze’s fitness, stating, “No, he’s out.” The manager indicated that further medical evaluation is necessary, mentioning another scan scheduled for in six or seven days to assess the situation.
The injury has raised concerns as British media outlets suggest that Newcastle United’s winger Harvey Barnes may step in to fill Eze’s spot in the squad. The team must now adapt without Eze, a promising player who had been anticipated to make a significant contribution to England’s efforts ahead of the World Cup.
