South Korea’s Preparation Plans for the 2026 World Cup
As the 2026 World Cup approaches, South Korea, one of the group opponents for Bafana Bafana, has unveiled a comprehensive plan for their preparations. The South Korean team, managed by coach Hong Myung-bo, is set to establish their training camp in Salt Lake City, United States, where they will undertake critical preparatory activities ahead of the tournament.
Strategic Training in Salt Lake City
Salt Lake City’s selection as the training base is strategic, as Coach Hong Myung-bo believes the altitude, approximately 5,000 feet, will mimic the conditions they will encounter in Guadalajara, Mexico. Bafana Bafana is scheduled to face South Korea in their final group stage match on June 24 in Guadalajara, making this altitude training particularly pertinent.
Squad Announcement and Timeline
On May 16, Coach Hong will announce his final squad for the tournament, providing an opportunity for Bafana coach Hugo Broos to refine his strategy against the team. Following the squad announcement, Broos is likely to reveal his own final squad about nine or ten days later.
Friendly Matches Anticipated
South Korea plans to arrive in the United States on May 18 for a ten-day training window, during which they target two friendly matches. These games will serve to finalize their strategies and bolster team cohesion before heading to Guadalajara on June 5, just a week before their opening match against the Czech Republic, scheduled for June 11 in Zapopan.
Match Schedule Overview
In addition to their match against Bafana Bafana, South Korea will also face Mexico in Zapopan on June 18. This grouping of opponents poses a significant challenge and offers an excellent opportunity for the team to fine-tune their performance ahead of the global tournament.
