BELGIAN CHAMPIONS CLUB BRUGGE SIGN SOUTH KOREAN WORLD CUP DEFENDER FROM FC MIDTJYLLAND
In a significant move that echoes their ambition in European football, Belgian champions Club Brugge have completed the signing of South Korean defender Lee Han-beom from FC Midtjylland. The player, who represented South Korea in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, has landed a three-year contract with the club, indicating their confidence in his abilities on the pitch.
Lee Han-beom’s journey has seen its challenges. Joining FC Midtjylland in August 2023, he faced a tough initiation, marked by limited appearances that hindered his early development. However, this 24-year-old has transformed into a cornerstone of the defensive lineup at Midtjylland, showcasing his growth, particularly in the cup final where his performance helped clinch a title for the team. Notably, he was part of an impressive 47-match unbeaten streak for both his club and national team that came to an end in November 2025.
Kristian Bach Bak, the sports director at Midtjylland, expressed confidence in Lee’s capabilities, stating, “Lee’s stats are impressive. He is extremely dangerous on set-pieces and involved in a great many goals in attack. He stands out in numerous aspects and possesses essential attributes that are among the best in international football.” This endorsement underlines the high expectations placed on him as he transitions into the Brugge squad.
This summer has already seen Lee make three appearances for South Korea at the World Cup, but now he faces new challenges with Club Brugge, who are gearing up to compete in the Champions League group phase. “We take pride in nurturing players who are ready to step into the world’s most prestigious tournaments.
