Borussia Dortmund Signs Greek Teen Konstantinos Karetsas from Genk
On Monday, Borussia Dortmund confirmed the acquisition of 18-year-old forward Konstantinos Karetsas from Belgian club Genk. The deal is reported to be worth 30 million euros (approximately 34 million dollars) plus bonuses, and it spans a duration of five years.
Karetsas is already making waves on the international stage, having scored three goals in ten appearances for the Greek national team, alongside contributing 11 assists during his previous season in the Belgian top flight.
This signing follows a notable need for more creative talent within Dortmund’s roster, particularly after the exit of Julian Brandt, who had been a long-standing member of the team and departed on a free transfer.
Expressing his excitement, Karetsas stated, “Borussia Dortmund is a special club, and I am incredibly proud to now be able to wear the black and yellow jersey.”
Sporting director Ole Book praised the young talent, emphasizing that Karetsas would enhance the team’s creativity and football intelligence. “He is technically very skilled and possesses the capability to find quick solutions in tight spaces, especially in the final third,” Book added.
In addition to Karetsas, Borussia Dortmund is reportedly interested in acquiring Said El Mala, a teenage forward from Cologne, as they aim to bolster their squad further after finishing second to Bayern Munich in the previous league season.
