Mykhailo Mudryk Appeals Four-Year Ban Imposed by the FA
Mykhailo Mudryk, the talented winger for Chelsea, finds himself embroiled in controversy following a doping violation that has led to a substantial four-year suspension handed down by the English Football Association (FA). Since November 2024, the 25-year-old has been sidelined, marking a significant absence from competitive play.
The origins of this penalty trace back to December 17, 2024, when Mudryk was provisionally suspended following an anti-doping test that detected meldonium, a substance prohibited in professional sports. Nearly six months later, on June 18, 2025, the FA moved forward with formal charges against him. After a lengthy wait and considerable anticipation, the decision was finalized, determining that Mudryk’s infraction warranted the maximum sentence under the FA’s regulations.
In response to the ban, Mudryk is set to appeal the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), seeking to overturn the ruling that has significantly affected his career. He last played in an official match on November 28, 2024, where he notably scored during a UEFA Europa Conference League encounter, mere weeks before the commencement of his provisional suspension.
His transfer to Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2023 was marked by a hefty fee that could reach as much as £88 million, coupled with a contract that could keep him at the club until 2030, with an option for an additional year. Despite these arrangements, the club and Mudryk’s representatives have maintained silence regarding the recent sanction, while the FA has refrained from further public commentary on the case.
