Denmark Faces Major Setback at Thomas Cup Without Viktor Axelsen

Denmark is gearing up to compete in the highly anticipated Thomas Cup, which will take place from late April to early May at Forum Horsens. However, the absence of two-time Olympic champion and former World No. 1 Viktor Axelsen is proving to be a significant disadvantage for the team. Axelsen, who has been battling severe back issues, was not included in the squad selected by the Danish Badminton Federation for this prestigious event.

Axelsen, recognized for his remarkable accomplishments in badminton, underwent surgery in April of the previous year, aiming to alleviate his ongoing health problems. Despite a brief return to the sport in the fall, his back complications resurfaced, rendering him unable to compete since his last appearance at the French Open in October.

The Danish men’s badminton team, while missing its star player, will still feature notable athletes including Anders Antonsen, who will compete in singles, and the doubles duo of Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen. These players are expected to step up in Axelsen’s absence, showcasing their skills on an international stage.

In the women’s category, the Danish squad remains formidable, led by in-form players Line Christophersen and Mia Blichfeldt, who are prepared to make their mark at the tournament. The Thomas Cup, in conjunction with the women’s Uber Cup, promises to provide thrilling badminton action for fans as national teams vie for the championship title.
