FAR Rabat Eliminates Defending Champions Pyramids to Reach CAF Champions League Semi-Finals

In a thrilling quarter-final match held at Cairo’s 30 June Stadium, FAR Rabat achieved a remarkable upset by defeating the favorites, Pyramids, with a score of 2-1, thereby securing their place in the CAF Champions League semi-finals with an aggregate score of 3-2. This victory marked the end of Pyramids’ title defense, as they struggled to replicate their previous triumph in the tournament.

The match unfolded dramatically, with Rida Slim putting the visitors in the lead just nine minutes into the game. This early goal set the tone for FAR Rabat, who continued to assert their dominance. Mohamed Rabie Hrimat further extended their advantage by scoring a powerful header in the 54th minute, leaving Pyramids in a precarious position.

Although Fiston Mayele managed to score for Pyramids in the 62nd minute, slicing the deficit in half, the Egyptian team was unable to find the necessary equalizer that would have taken the match to penalties. FAR Rabat’s resolute defense held firm, ensuring their progression in the tournament.

Youssef El Fahli, a forward for FAR Rabat, expressed his excitement in a post-match interview with beIN Sports. “This is a historic win and a historic qualification for the club,” he remarked, highlighting the team’s determination to pursue the championship title this season. With a hopeful sentiment, he added, “God willing, we’ll bring home the club’s second continental crown.”

As FAR Rabat prepares for the semi-finals, they await the outcome of the other quarter-final match between fellow Moroccans RS Berkane and Sudan’s Al Hilal. Fans of FAR Rabat are filled with anticipation as the team aims to secure their place in history once again, aspiring to repeat their triumph from 1985 when they claimed victory in the African Cup of Champions Clubs against AS Bilima, now known as AS Dragons, of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
