Luke Ronchi Takes the Helm at Melbourne Renegades as Head Coach

In a significant shift within the cricketing world, Luke Ronchi has been appointed as the head coach of the Melbourne Renegades in Australia’s Big Bash League. This decision comes after Ronchi has served as New Zealand’s batting coach since 2020, having taken over from Peter Fulton.

Ronchi’s Transition from Assistant to Head Coach

Ronchi, who hung up his international boots in 2017, had previously contributed significantly to the New Zealand cricket scene as an assistant coach for six years. His tenure at New Zealand Cricket coincided with an era filled with notable achievements, including clinching the inaugural World Test Championship in 2021. Moreover, under his guidance, the team managed a remarkable 3-0Test series triumph over India in 2024, and secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory in a one-day international series against the same opponent earlier this year.

Ronchi’s Reflections on His Time with New Zealand

Expressing his sentiments regarding his move, Ronchi stated, “Coming back to the national set up has been a dream come true for me and I’m immensely grateful to my fellow coaches and the players for the opportunity to work alongside them for all these years.” He emphasized that his overarching aim was to elevate team performance and achieve excellence, highlighting that he cherishes several memorable moments from his coaching stint with the national squad.

Final Series with New Zealand Before Transition

Ronchi will continue to fulfill his duties with the New Zealand team until the conclusion of the home series against India, which is scheduled from October 22 to December 1. This final engagement will mark the end of his chapter with New Zealand Cricket, paving the way for his new responsibilities in the Big Bash League.
