Como Fails to Secure Win in Goalless Draw Against Udinese
In an intense match at the Bluenergy Stadium, Como managed to maintain their unbeaten streak, now extending to eight games in all competitions (with five wins and three draws), following a goalless stalemate against Udinese in Serie A. This solid performance keeps Como firmly in the race for a potential first-time qualification for the UEFA Champions League next season.
From the beginning, Como showed why they are among the top-performing teams in the league. Diego Carlos launched an early shot that went just wide, signaling their intent, shortly before Maximo Perrone’s effort was comfortably gathered by Udinese’s goalkeeper Maduka Okoye. On the other side, Udinese responded with Arthur Atta’s powerful strike which was expertly deflected by Jean Butez.
As the game progressed to the 20th minute, controversy gripped the match when Atta fell inside the penalty area, prompting a wave of appeals for a penalty. However, referee Fabio Maresca dismissed the claims, choosing to let the game continue without intervention.
The first half saw a competitive back-and-forth, featuring shots from both sides. Nico Paz nearly broke the deadlock with a long-range shot that tested Okoye, while Butez exhibited quick reflexes to deny Hassane Kamara’s attempt at the opposite end.
Into the second half, enthusiasm waned as both teams struggled to find clear scoring opportunities. The highlight of the initial stages was a close-range effort from Christian Kabasele that was again held by Butez in the 57th minute. The managers, Kosta Runjaic for Como and Fabregas, sought fresh legs and tactical adjustments from their benches.
One of Como’s substitutions, Sergi Roberto, very nearly turned the tide, as his header narrowly missed the target, showcasing Como’s persistent efforts to clinch a victory. Meanwhile, Udinese introduced Idrissa Gueye, whose fierce shot tested Butez, marking the last significant moment of the match.
This draw not only solidifies Como’s lead over Juventus in the race for Champions League qualification—extending it to four points—despite playing one match more—but it also leaves Udinese just two points shy of breaking into the top tier of Serie A, maintaining their competitive form with only one defeat in the last five matches (two wins and two draws).
The standout performer of the match was Jean Butez, earning the title of Flashscore Man of the Match for his key saves that contributed significantly to the clean sheet.
