Inter Milan Dominates Roma with Stunning 5-2 Victory

In a thrilling display of football, Inter Milan reignited their Serie A campaign by clinching an impressive 5-2 victory against AS Roma at the iconic San Siro. This commanding performance ended a three-match winless streak for the Nerazzurri, solidifying their position as league leaders. On the contrary, Roma continues to struggle, having secured just one win in their last seven competitions.

AS Roma, aiming to achieve back-to-back league wins for the first time since mid-January, faced an uphill battle from the onset. Just a minute into the match, Marcus Thuram showcased remarkable skill, retrieving a pass from Manuel Akanji along the right flank. He delivered a precise cross to Lautaro Martínez, who skillfully maneuvered past his defender and struck decisively, giving Inter an early lead.

Despite the shaky start, Roma’s goalkeeper, Mile Svilar, displayed resilience by thwarting additional efforts from Hakan Calhanoglu and a follow-up shot from Martínez, averting an even more disastrous start for his side. As the match progressed, Roma began to assert themselves and nearly equalized midway through the first half when Yann Sommer executed a remarkable save, deflecting a powerful header from Donyell Malen following a free-kick.

Pressing forward, Malen again came close, narrowly missing the target with a long-range effort. However, the visitors would find their breakthrough five minutes before halftime when Devyne Rensch skillfully collected a pass from Matias Soule on the left and delivered an inviting cross, which Gianluca Mancini converted with a powerful header.

The parity was short-lived, as just before the halftime whistle, Calhanoglu unleashed a spectacular shot from over 30 yards out, catching Svilar off guard and restoring Inter’s lead. This pivotal goal shifted momentum back in Inter’s favor, allowing them to capitalize with two quick goals within the first ten minutes of the second half.

Firstly, Thuram’s aerial prowess helped set up another goal for Martínez, who easily slotted home his second of the evening. Shortly after, Thuram got on the scoresheet himself, scoring with a deft flick from a Calhanoglu corner kick, much to the delight of the home crowd.

Inter continued to dominate, with Nicolo Barella seizing an opportunity to score the fifth goal after cleverly navigating through a disoriented Roma defense. Although Lorenzo Pellegrini salvaged some dignity for Roma with a well-placed finish 20 minutes from time, Denzel Dumfries missed a golden opportunity to inflict further embarrassment on the visitors.

This latest triumph marks Inter Milan’s remarkable streak of 10 wins in their last 12 encounters against Roma. Conversely, the Giallorossi remain winless in five away matches in Serie A, raising questions about their form as the season progresses.

Marcus Thuram’s standout performance earned him the Flashscore Man of the Match title, further establishing his impact in this resounding victory.
