Knee Issues Threaten Danish Star’s World Championship Participation
Danish international handball player Mads Svane Knudsen faces a potentially lengthy absence from the sport due to knee problems that have persisted since the Danish domestic league playoffs in April. Scheduled for knee surgery on Tuesday, the talented playmaker had initially hoped that intense rehabilitation over the summer would help him avoid this invasive procedure.
In an interview with “Midtjyllands Avis,” Svane expressed his concerns about missing the upcoming World Championship set for January. He noted that undergoing surgery will prevent him from attending a vital national team training camp later in the fall, which is crucial for team cohesion and preparation ahead of the tournament.
“It’s a minor procedure, so I’m optimistic, but the duration of my recovery will depend on the surgical findings,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of being part of the final training before such a significant competition.
Previously, in June, it was revealed that Mads Svane would be moving to Aalborg Håndbold in the summer of 2027, marking a new chapter in his career. His agility on the court has been a significant asset, and his previous experience with Mors-Thy has laid a solid foundation for his success.
Earlier this season, Svane contributed to the Danish national team’s victory in the European Championships, participating in two matches and earning a total of seven senior international caps throughout the year. His performance has made him a key player for Denmark, and the team will undoubtedly feel his absence if he is unable to recover in time for the World Championship.
