LaLiga Match Postponed Due to Fungal Outbreak

The opening LaLiga match between Celta Vigo and Osasuna has been officially postponed due to the discovery of a fungal outbreak affecting the pitch at the Estadio de Balaidos. This decision was announced by the Spanish club on Thursday, following a thorough technical inspection conducted by LaLiga.

Originally scheduled for Sunday, the match’s postponement was a collaborative decision made by both Celta Vigo and Osasuna, and it received the endorsement of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). The inspection revealed that the fungal damage to the playing surface was significant enough to render it unfit for professional football, particularly as adverse weather conditions had impeded the recovery efforts needed for the pitch’s proper maintenance.

In a statement, LaLiga conveyed, “In coordination with both clubs and the RFEF, we agreed to postpone the match between Celta and CA Osasuna scheduled for next Sunday at Abanca Balaidos due to a problem affecting the stadium’s turf, which is currently unfit for football.”

The match has been rescheduled for August 27, 2023, allowing time for the necessary repairs and treatments to the pitch to ensure the safety and quality needed for players and fans alike.
