SOUTH AFRICAN DEFENDER JOINS NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION IN MLS
Tylon Smith has officially transitioned from English football to the Major League Soccer, signing with the New England Revolution. At just 21 years old, Smith joins the club on loan from Queens Park Rangers, a move that is set to last until the conclusion of the 2027 season, with an option for New England to purchase him outright.

Notably, Olwethu Makhanya has secured a spot with Glasgow Rangers after demonstrating his skills in Philadelphia, while Mbekezeli Mbokazi made a strong impact with the Chicago Fire, although an unfortunate thigh injury will keep him out for the remainder of the 2026 season.

Both Smith and Makhanya are products of the esteemed development program at Stellenbosch FC, showcasing the talent emerging from South Africa. Revolution General Manager and Chief Soccer Officer Chris Tierney praised Smith’s potential, stating, “Tylon Smith is a promising player who will help strengthen our defense.” Tierney expressed confidence in Smith’s foundational experiences gained through club commitments and representing his national youth team.
AN EMERGING STAR
Tylon Smith previously showcased his talent on a global stage, earning the title of Player of the Tournament at the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations in 2025, where South Africa lifted the trophy. Coach Marko Mitrović of the Revolution is familiar with Smith’s capabilities, having faced him during the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, where South Africa bested the United States with a score of 2-1.
