LENS APPOINTS DINO TOPPMOLLER AS NEW MANAGER TO REPLACE PIERRE SAGE
In a significant move within the realm of Ligue 1, RC Lens has officially announced the appointment of Dino Toppmoller as their new head coach. The German manager has signed a contract that extends until 2028, succeeding Pierre Sage, who recently made the leap to the Premier League by joining Crystal Palace. This decision was confirmed by the club on Tuesday, highlighting their intent to maintain momentum after a successful previous season.
Toppmoller’s coaching credentials have been bolstered by a successful run at Eintracht Frankfurt from 2023 to 2026, where he honed his abilities and crafted a competitive team. Under Toppmoller’s guidance, RC Lens aims to build upon the achievements secured by Sage, who led the team to their inaugural Coupe de France title and Champions League qualification—a feat only realized three times in the history of the club.
Last season, Lens celebrated an impressive second-place finish in the league, trailing Paris Saint-Germain by just six points. Toppmoller is tasked with upholding and advancing the team’s progress during the upcoming season, a challenge he appears ready to embrace.
The new manager expressed his philosophy on the game, stating, “My style of play is about finding the right balance between technical quality and intensity, and I think that will work very well with our team.” Toppmoller’s affinity for intense football aligns with Lens’ reputation, as he described them as the most intense team in the league last year. He emphasized his love for attacking football, a trait he carried from his playing days, iterating that the most crucial aspect is the players’ commitment to the club and its values.
