LIVRAMENTO RULED OUT OF WORLD CUP DUE TO INJURY, CHALOBAH CALLED UP BY ENGLAND
Tino Livramento, a key player for England, has been officially ruled out of the ongoing World Cup just before the team’s highly anticipated opening match against Croatia, scheduled for Wednesday. In his place, Trevoh Chalobah has been called up to join the squad.
The 23-year-old Newcastle defender has been dealing with a series of injuries in the weeks leading into the tournament but faced a significant setback with a calf strain that could sideline him for as long as six weeks. Trevoh Chalobah, who previously collaborated with England’s manager Thomas Tuchel during their time at Chelsea, is set to replace Livramento. Originally, Chalobah was on the standby list, yet he now has the opportunity to step in and contribute to the team. However, it’s worth noting that he will only join the squad after the match against Croatia has concluded.
According to FIFA regulations, a player who is injured or falls ill is permitted to be replaced in the squad no less than 24 hours prior to the opening match. This rule was applied in this instance, allowing for the swift integration of Chalobah despite the last-minute nature of Livramento’s injury.
This development is regarded as a significant loss for the England team, given Livramento’s versatility and capability to play effectively at both right and left-back positions. He had participated in the second half of the warm-up game where England secured a 1-0 victory against New Zealand but remained an unused substitute during their last friendly against Costa Rica.
Chalobah, who has made one appearance for the national team, debuted in a match against Senegal where England suffered a 3-1 defeat back in June of the previous year.
