New Brentford Signing Jannik Schuster Reflects on Challenging Pre-Season Experience
Jannik Schuster, the newly acquired 20-year-old Austrian defender from Red Bull Salzburg, has shared insights into what has become a demanding and intense first pre-season with Brentford. Currently participating in a training camp in Portugal, Schuster finds himself in a rigorous environment as the team gears up for the upcoming 2026/27 Premier League season under the guidance of Keith Andrews.
During an interview, Schuster expressed his feelings about the training regimen, referring to it as ‘very hard’, yet he welcomes the physical challenge as he integrates into the squad. “I have to say it’s very hard! Compared to my old club, it’s very intense but you get used to it,” Schuster noted, illustrating the stark contrast between his previous experiences and those at Brentford.
He elaborated on the heightened intensity of the training sessions, which are complemented by gym workouts after every practice. “I didn’t do that at my old club. It’s something new but I think it will be good for me,” he remarked, highlighting his openness to adapting to this new structure that emphasizes physical conditioning.
Reflecting on his prior experiences, Schuster compared the pre-season approaches of his former club to that of Brentford, noting that his old team rarely organized full pre-season tours, with the exception of occasional winter trips to Valencia. “It was very good there but if you compare it to here, it’s another level,” he stated, emphasizing the superior quality of training and facilities available at Brentford.
“It’s perfect here. The conditions are good, the pitches are good, the weather is good, and the hotel is beautiful next to the sea. I think we’ll have a nice time here,” Schuster concluded, indicating his optimism about the experiences that lie ahead with his new team, the Bees.
