Novak Djokovic Welcomes Viktor Troicki as New Coach Ahead of French Open
Novak Djokovic, the reigning champion and a 24-time Grand Slam titleholder, confirmed on Wednesday that Viktor Troicki will take over as his head coach just in time for the upcoming French Open. This transition comes after positive speculation regarding their collaboration was fueled by Troicki’s presence during Djokovic’s practice session at Roland Garros, where he trained alongside fellow competitor Alexander Zverev.
This coaching change marks a significant moment for both players, particularly as Troicki played a vital role in Djokovic’s recent Olympic success, helping him secure a gold medal in the 2024 Summer Olympics held in Paris. Djokovic expressed his excitement about the new partnership on Instagram, referring to Troicki as “my friend, teammate, and now coach.”
Viktor Troicki, who previously held a career-high ATP ranking of 12 and has served as Serbia’s Davis Cup captain, had been part of Djokovic’s coaching staff during the Olympics. Their friendship stretches back to their childhood, making this new professional relationship all the more meaningful.
As Djokovic approaches his 39th birthday on Friday, he is preparing for his 22nd appearance at the French Open, a prestigious tournament where he has triumphed three times. Despite his illustrious track record, he has faced challenges this year, having participated in only three tournaments and suffering a defeat in his sole match on clay at the Italian Open in Rome.
