FC Volendam Advances in Relegation Play-Off Final Against Willem II
On a dramatic evening in Tilburg, FC Volendam emerged victorious against Willem II, taking a significant step towards maintaining their position in the Eredivisie. The match, part of the relegation play-off final, ended in favor of Volendam with a score of 2-1, setting the stage for the second leg of this crucial encounter.

The game turned in favor of FC Volendam, who capitalized on an early error from Willem II’s Per van Loon. Van Loon unintentionally gifted the ball to Moroccan midfielder Bilal Ould-Chikh, who seized the opportunity to score the first goal, slotting the ball effortlessly past the goalkeeper Thomas Didillon-Hödl. Shortly after, Volendam’s captain Henk Veerman added a second goal, skillfully maneuvering around Didillon-Hödl to place the ball into an empty net, extending their lead to 2-0.
Despite the deficit, Willem II managed to respond, narrowing the gap to 2-1 when Nick Doodeman found the back of the net with a well-placed shot into the far corner of Roy Steur’s goal. The hosts were initially relieved to be trailing by only one goal, especially given that Didillon-Hödl and the crossbar had denied both Benjamin Pauwels and World Cup-bound Brandley Kuwas from scoring further.
