Transfer News: Sekhukhune United Signs Melusi Buthelezi
In a significant development for the club, Sekhukhune United has secured the transfer of goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi, as officially announced on Friday. Buthelezi, a free agent, has moved to the Limpopo-based team after parting ways with Orlando Pirates at the conclusion of the previous season.
The signing comes in the wake of Renaldo Leaner, the first-choice goalkeeper for Sekhukhune United last season, transferring to rivals Kaizer Chiefs. The club expressed its excitement in a statement, highlighting Buthelezi’s experience and accomplishments in the realm of competitive football.
“Sekhukhune United Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi on a permanent transfer,” the club declared. “The experienced shot-stopper joins Babina Noko having been part of the team that accomplished trophy-winning campaigns. He brings with him quality, experience, and a winning mentality to the squad.”
Buthelezi’s career began at Jomo Cosmos, where he progressed through the youth system before making his professional debut during the 2018/19 Motsepe Foundation Championship season. He then transitioned to TS Galaxy during the 2020/21 season, where he spent three years before joining Orlando Pirates.
Throughout his tenure with The Buccaneers, Buthelezi made a total of 22 appearances, 20 of which were as a starter. Despite his potential, he struggled to solidify his position as the first-choice keeper. With his move to Sekhukhune United, Buthelezi is determined to reclaim his top form and make a significant impact at the club.
