NETHERLANDS FORWARD WOUT WEGHORST JOINS FC TWENTE AFTER LEAVING AJAX

Wout Weghorst, the Netherlands striker who represented his country at the last World Cup, has secured a move to FC Twente after departing from Ajax. The transfer was officially confirmed by both clubs on Saturday, marking a significant step in the career of the 33-year-old forward.

Weghorst, who has been a backup striker for the Dutch national team in the ongoing World Cup held in Canada, Mexico, and the United States, has yet to make his appearance in the finals. He has inked a two-year contract with FC Twente, signaling a new chapter in his professional journey.

In a statement regarding the transfer, Erik ten Hag, the technical director of FC Twente, expressed immense pride in bringing Weghorst to the club. Ten Hag, who previously signed the player for a loan spell at Manchester United three years ago, described this acquisition as a “fantastic opportunity” for the team. He commended Weghorst as a consummate professional and a role model for aspiring footballers, emphasizing his dedication and work ethic.

Weghorst’s experience includes playing for several clubs across various leagues, such as Burnley, VfL Wolfsburg, Hoffenheim, and Besiktas, in addition to his notable time at Ajax, where he made an impact before his recent transfer. With 52 caps to his name for the Netherlands, he continues to be a prominent figure in Dutch football.

This transfer comes at a crucial time as Weghorst aims to secure more playing time and contribute significantly to FC Twente’s campaign in the Eredivisie.
