BLOW FOR KAIZER CHIEFS AS DEFENDER SET TO MISS START OF SEASON WITH FRACTURED ARM

Kaizer Chiefs are facing a significant setback as their defender Paseka Mako has been forced to return to South Africa from the team’s pre-season training camp in Spain. This decision comes after Mako sustained a fractured arm while competing against the Saudi Arabian club Al Kholood, resulting in a disappointing 1-1 draw on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old player, who has been a crucial part of the Chiefs’ defensive lineup, will miss the beginning of the 2026/27 football season due to this unfortunate injury. In a statement released by the club on Friday, it was confirmed that Mako will undergo medical treatment back home and consult with a specialist orthopaedic surgeon for a thorough assessment of his condition.

Chiefs expressed optimism that Mako will rejoin his teammates in the upcoming weeks as he begins his recovery. His absence will be a considerable challenge for the squad, which will need to be at full strength as they gear up for multiple competitions this season, including the CAF Confederation Cup.

Paseka Mako joined Kaizer Chiefs last season from the rival Orlando Pirates, where he had spent seven seasons after making his initial move from Chippa United in 2018. During his first campaign with the Chiefs, he made a total of 18 appearances, including 12 starts, contributing significantly to the team’s efforts on the pitch.

As the season approaches, the Chiefs’ management will have to make strategic adjustments in light of Mako’s injury, underscoring the depth required in their squad to navigate through ongoing challenges in both domestic and international play.
