SIX-TIME CHAMPION DJOKOVIC WITHDRAWS FROM MIAMI OPEN DUE TO INJURY

Novak Djokovic, recognized as one of the most successful tennis players in history, will not participate in the upcoming Miami Open due to persistent health challenges that have plagued him throughout this season. The six-time champion, unable to attend the prestigious tournament, will miss the opportunity to defend his title and face the likelihood of a drop in his ATP rankings.

This season began positively for Djokovic, as he triumphed over rival Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open. However, his performance deteriorated following that victory, culminating in a disappointing exit from the Indian Wells tournament. There, he fell in the round of 16 against defending champion Jack Draper, marking a significant setback in his campaign.

Djokovic’s withdrawal from the Miami Masters, which is scheduled for the following week, is primarily due to an injury affecting his right shoulder. As a result, he will relinquish 650 ranking points, which is expected to cause him to drop to at least fourth place, surpassing him in the standings by competitors like Alexander Zverev.

Having secured victory in Miami six times, Djokovic also shares the record for the most finals reached in the tournament’s history, with eight appearances alongside American legend Andre Agassi. His last significant feat at the Miami Open occurred last year when he finished as a runner-up to Jakub Mensik in a closely contested match.

The men’s tournament draw in Miami will commence on Wednesday, March 18, with the draw set for Monday at 18:00 CET. This period marks a critical juncture in Djokovic’s career as he aims for a comeback in early April on clay courts in Monte Carlo, seeking to regain his competitive edge.
