Vingegaard’s Season Concludes Amid Recovery from Injury

The cycling community has learned that Jonas Vingegaard will not return to racing for Team Visma | Lease a Bike this season. The athlete is still grappling with the repercussions of a collarbone fracture sustained during a crash in the Tour de France.

On July 19, Vingegaard exited the Tour de France due to his unfortunate accident, resulting in the need for surgical intervention to repair his broken collarbone. Initially, there was optimism that he might resume competitive cycling before the year’s end, potentially aiming to participate in the World Championships scheduled to take place in Montreal. However, that prospect has now been ruled out.

Throughout the 2023 season, Vingegaard had an impressive run, winning prestigious races such as Paris-Nice, the Volta a Catalunya, and the Giro d’Italia. Moving forward, his main focus will shift towards recovery and training, setting the groundwork for a successful 2024 season.

Vingegaard stated, “After a long and intense racing period, a recovery phase was already planned following the Tour de France. Due to my collarbone injury, my training has been delayed, making it impossible for me to regain top performance in the near future. My primary objective is to prepare effectively for the 2027 season, and I plan to discuss these specific targets with my team soon.”
