Phil Mickelson to Miss Masters for Family Health Matter
Phil Mickelson, a prominent figure in LIV Golf and three-time Masters champion, has announced that he will not be participating in next week’s Masters Tournament. This decision comes as he and his family are currently addressing a personal health issue. Mickelson shared this news on a social media platform, stating that he would be unavailable for an indefinite period.
This recent announcement follows Mickelson’s absence from the first four events of LIV Golf’s 2026 season due to the same family-related health concern. After a brief return to competitive play, where he finished in a tie for 48th place in a recent South African tournament, Mickelson expresses regret at missing the prestigious Masters, emphasizing the significance it holds for him and the golfing community.
He mentioned in his statement, “It is definitely the most special week of the year,” and expressed his hopes for the participants while assuring fans he would be watching the event closely.
This will mark the first time Mickelson has missed the Masters since 2022, when he opted out of the tournament amid controversy surrounding statements made in an unauthorized biography, which had revealed his uneasy sentiments regarding Saudi Arabia’s backing of LIV Golf and their human rights track record.
Last year’s Masters was equally challenging for him, as he failed to make the cut. The 2026 Masters Tournament is scheduled to take place from April 9 to April 12 at the iconic Augusta National Golf Club, and Mickelson’s absence will undoubtedly be felt during this marquee event in the golfing calendar.
